May 3, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Badman Dr. Wes Description: Ultra Podcast Z is launching "Ani-May" and this is an odd episode. We were originally going to have JD and Nyaru back on this one and neither would make it. Warren is once again hosting (hence the look) and Weston joined in as a last minute replacement for Nyaru. We came into this one thinking we'd have trouble filling in the Ani-May parts and only spend a bit of it talking about the couple topics we'd had down (Recent, Fav, and Comfort Anime as well as a recent J-List article that we found weird) and spend most of it brainstorming ideas for the rest of the month. We DID sort of do that at the end but we were more than capable of filling this episode with a lot of talk about Offkai Expo (we'll cover a bit more of that when Nyaru returns too!) and just going on and on about anime. A good episode that was a bit more structured than the last one and we hope that you all agree with us. There IS an amount of randomness here and there though, but would it be a UPZ episode if there wasn't? Also, check out that J-List article below and let us know if you've been pronouncing these anime correctly or not. Ani-May will continue right up until Fanime so be sure to keep an eye out for more as we continue down this month, and be sure to yell at Nyaru for bouncing on this one again! March 8, 2022 6:00 PM PST Hosts: Manuel Photaku Description: Ultra Podcast Z saw Nyaru cancel at the last minute, guess it WAS International Women's Day so we can say that she took the day off for that. Photaku joined and once again was a replacement for Nyaru rather than an addition but it was a lot of fun talking about his new Homer Simpson-esque job and more. That "more" was a LOT about the Leprechaun movies and how if we ever see a "Leprechaun vs. Chucky" it BETTER be Warwick Davis and Brad Dourif respectively since they've been sort of been replaced recently (though Brad Dourif is still Chucky in everything but the remake). When we finally got it together it was mostly time to talk about all the recent... holidays? We talked about Mario Day and some of our favorite Mario games as well as International Women's Day itself, and lastly the anniversary of the Japanese debut of the Sailor Moon anime. In between was the usual level of randomness and side bits, as well as an update of sorts on the who yaoi paddle situation. Next week we're going to talk MORE about Leprechaun stuff since it'll be a St. Patrick's Day episode so look forward to that! September 28, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Photaku JD (Off Screen) Description: Ultra Podcast Z hits 150 episodes and Nyaru is nowhere to be found! We hit yet another milestone but rather than make a big deal about it (we've had a LOT of "anniversary"-type episodes recently and have at least one more coming up) we decided to tackle a topic we surprisingly don't cover much: anime, namely shorter anime series. The premise for this started with discussions about how Manuel doesn't watch much anime and how we'd compile lists for people who want to watch anime but probably don't want to invest days into shows like One Piece, Naruto, etc. Photaku joined us again this week in his first proper episode appearance (not a tier list or game night) and after a rather long discussion about Genshin Impact and more, we got into our lists. This episode features a few more edits than one usually sees in a UPZ so this truly is a "YouTube Version" but we touched on a lot of animes and it was probably for the best that there were only three of us on this one as we would've got even less out probably. There's a lot of suggestions here in a lot of different genres so let us know what you think about our choices, give us some of your own, and maybe we'll cover this topic in a future episode as we definitely left a lot of ones we wanted to discuss off the table. May 11, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru MysteryOtaku Description: Ultra Podcast Z took a really long break before this one with two weeks with no episode and our return was a LITTLE shaky. Originally we had a co-host lined up and they were forced to cancel earlier on and it was decided that our mod/shadow host JD (AKA MysteryOtaku) would jump on-screen for the first time as an official co-host. The thing was that the internet wasn't really liking this one and we were plagued with problems from the get-go to the point that MysteryOtaku was forced to cut himself out of the show and was basically unable to do much else because of various computer issues. To make matters even quirkier, this YouTube version has a false start at the beginning (Tried to cut it out with YouTube but it wasn't liking the processing of the video afterwards so that was abandoned) and there is a few minutes of a still image (the thumbnail as it were) where the screen recording was lost, the VOD was also lost so this is the only version that exists so we hope that you bear with us. All that nonsense aside, this was a really fun show that featured a livelier Nyaru than we've seen in a while covering a lot of recent news topics including some video game, anime, and music updates and more. Hopefully this is as entertaining to watch as it was live and the quirks of the recording aren't too detrimental to anyone's enjoyment. February 23, 2021 6:00 PM PST Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Pleiades Description: Ultra Podcast Z has had a lot of "weird" themed episodes before but this one is one of the weirdest. It was all based around the theme of "Bad Advice Delivered Badly" (and yes, we know about the odd grammar in that phrase) due to a meeting Manuel had regarding starting a popular podcast. Seeing as we're a pretty home-y, low rent podcast with all sorts of issues (but we're doing our best!) we decided to run with this with some intentional "problems" and many others that popped up during the show that we didn't really intend for but went with the them really well. Basically we relied on our live audience to ask us for advice and we'd give it with an air of satire about it. The problem with that concept was that it required us to have a very large, active audience which isn't something that UPZ consistently has... We soldiered on though and filled in a lot of the dead space with random storytime, talks about anime, and even some examples of "bad advice" we've seen or have been given. If we ever do this style of show again (well, WHEN we do as we definitely will) we might gather up some topics from our audience beforehand to give advice to live, but then again that wouldn't be as much fun as going in completely unsure and cold... February 9, 2021 6:15 PM PST Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Jasmine Description: Ultra Podcast Z took yet another break as we were off the week before (Making way for the F.A. Podcast's first episode though.) but we came back with a topic that has been pushed so far back that we're already done with a chunk of 2021! This was originally envisioned as the first episode of the year but was pushed back as Melancholiaah's availability changed and we had the random aside to talk amusement parks/roller coasters. So we're nicely into February 2021 and we're choosing now to take a look at all the upcoming media we're looking forward to in the new year. Well, maybe if you factor this as a Lunar New Year thing we can still be considered on top of it! Anyway, we discussed a lot of anime, video games, and movies with a too many titles to name here. Lots of things came to us as we went along and we even discussed lots of randomness at the end. Also, bear with the shaky start to this one as we had some technical difficulties to overcome in the first 15 minutes or so that thankfully don't plague the show proper. Did we mention that this show also means that our Valentine's Day-themed episode is pushed back now? Let's hope we catch up to the schedule before 2021 is over! April 28, 2020 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Konaru Janette Description: Ultra Podcast Z (and most of the rest of the country) is still in quarantine and this episode sort of continues the con nostalgia theme from last week's main episode! Originally Janette was supposed to be on that episode (we actually had a glut of hosts for it) and she was not able to so we set up this one here! Not wanting to completely retread the same material, we took a slightly different approach and channeled our inner boomer with a "back in MY day!" style discussion! Mainly focusing on the ease of access anime fans have today, we talked about how expensive and difficult it was being a fan over a decade ago and the horrors of dealing with horrible companies, bad release schedules, lack of widespread availability, and bootleg merch EVERYWHERE it was definitely a different world. Beyond that, we took a deep dive into the world of piracy, and why it may be popping up again, and how the world of streaming is amazing, but FAR from perfect. An open discussion if there ever was one, we could literally take each of the topics we touched on and discuss them for hours, but alas, we have a time limit of sorts on this show so we did our best! April 25, 2020 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Pleiades Haro Badman Description: Ultra Podcast Z (and most of the rest of the country) is still in quarantine and this episode basically redoes our 93.5 episode from two weeks ago but with the addition of Haro! There was a lot of randomness, and some technical difficulties, at the start of this one, but we got into the swing of things by taking some seldom-heard-from-us political jabs at the current situation in the US and more on the lockdown in Peru. (Including more on martial law and what it means for them and us.) We then moved into more talk about the current health situation and tackled such topics like the Bleach Cult (with a bit of a non-serious tone) and the 5G nonsense going around right now. (With a surprisingly serious tone) We then talked about Corona-chan again since there have been some developments with the character in certain anime convention circles and we felt that the topic warranted re-visiting. Needless to say it still ended with a #PleiadesIsOverParty bit! Rather than wrap this one up though we took a stab into some Goku memes and accidentally dropped into a 30 minute discussion of Neon Genesis Evangelion and the Evangelion Rebuild Series. That, and some Resident Evil nonsense, rounded out this epic three-hour podcast and we think this one really stands on its own, especially due to the topics that we never saw ourselves covering in this podcast.
