October 4, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Hao Description: Ultra Podcast Z is back on its Halloween bs and this is an interesting episode as we were originally going to have a completely different JD-centric episode due to some schedule nonsense and put together this episode just hours before go-time. This isn't TOO far from the usual UPZ nonsense, but it is interesting that we got Hao onto the show for the first time, thus completing his trifecta of appearing on every main A-to-J show we have! In the older days of our October episodes we used to cover the same topics with new hosts so we SORT OF did that here and went over some trick or treating memories and horror media stuff, but we kinda lost that plot about midway in. That was fine though as we had more than enough to talk about and even though Hao apparently isn't a big consumer of horror media that doesn't come in the form of movies (he REALLY needs to get on that horror musical thing though!) we still managed to talk a LOT about Twilight Zone towards the end. It's almost as if we had a Twilight Zone themed episode and kind of wasted it on the last segment here. That's fine though, maybe we'll have one in the future complete with monologue and us mouthing the theme. Would that be interesting or just ridiculous? We shall see! Ultra Podcast Z 157 (Fav Holiday Media w/ Dr. Wes) Xmas Horror, Christmas Specials, Movies, More!12/5/2021 Live Broadcast:
November 30, 2021 6:00 PM PST Hosts: Manuel Dr. Wes Description: Ultra Podcast Z took a lowkey week of gameplay right before Thanksgiving so we decided to retake back the number of the episode so behold a retconned Episode 157! This is the first, and sadly probably only due to time, XMas special episodes and we took a look at some of our favorite holiday media like Christmas movies or Christmas specials of TV shows. There was a lot of nostalgia here but it needs to be mentioned that the first ten or so minutes of this show are lost so bear with the sudden start and us referring to things that aren't actually in the episode anymore. For archival sake we opened with a "What Are We (Blank)ing" where Manuel discussed watching "Rock of Love" recently and then quickly went into the main topic and started a long part about TV Christmas specials like Tales From The Crypt's "All Through The House" (mistakenly called "Silent Night Deadly Night" here) and The Simpsons' many holiday episodes like its pilot "Simpsons Roasting Over An Open Fire". The rest of the content is there and the show proper picks up when we're still in the middle of the Simpsons discussion so there wasn't a lot lost in terms of time, just that we were moving pretty quickly out of nowhere for a change lol. There wasn't a lot of live interaction on this one but we kept the show moving fast and covered a lot of media and attempted to look into other holiday media as well, though this went down a talk where Manuel tried to stupidly explain some Kwanzaa nonsense but it was all in good fun and no offense is intended. It's also worth mentioning that the side stories and non-sequiturs are mostly on point here and the topic was covered pretty directly even though this episode had a lot of issues against it, namely that it was nearly cancelled before as Nyaru was not able to join due to illness. Weston filled in last minute and this was a topic that he had a lot to say about even if he had to do so somewhat cold. Anyway, it was a fun show so hopefully you look beyond some of the technical nonsense and maybe share some of your favorite holiday media and what you think about our takes. October 5, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Dr. Wes JD (Mod) Description: Ultra Podcast Z is hitting up Halloween! It's the first of our special spoopy episodes and we're talking Horror Movie Remakes! These special spoopy episodes are always a lot of fun and we look forward to them and make sure to never skip a week and this is the year that we decided to tackle some topics that have been floating around in years past but we never got around to doing. This was originally thought to be a tier list but seeing as we kinda relied on doing those when we were lazy, we decided to just have it as an open discussion and this is probably for the best as it gave us time to talk about things and still give us space to be random when we felt like it. Wes joined us for this one and there are definitely movies that we accidentally skipped but we covered most of the heavy hitters here and that was largely the goal to begin with. We actually managed to get some good recommendations out of this and didn't just tear apart all the remakes as you might have expected us to do so be sure to let us know what you think about what we had to say about them and let us know your thoughts on some horror movie remakes, especially ones we didn't cover here! Elsewhere we talked about idol graduations, Sora in Smash Bros., and some nonsense about Whole Foods, so keep an eye out for that stuff too! Next week we're watching "Night of The Living Dead" which is another thing we've been talking about doing since UPZ Year One! July 13, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Badman JD Description: Ultra Podcast Z had another of our infamous "cursed episodes" as this was very nearly cancelled but we decided to soldier on, THEN all sorts of technical issues meant that we started a bit late and a lot of other random nonsense kept this episode from being up to par in general (also a nice place to mention that we're aware that it isn't the best quality and the audio does slowly drift out of sync from the video as the show goes on, but we did our best from the sources we had) but once again we're soldiering on. The show itself was quite fun and featured JD in a speaking role replacing Hinacchi who was supposed to be on. Originally we were going to focus far more on gaming and related topics but we decided to kind of float this one all over the place talking about such randomness as the joy of annoying cosplayers at cons and how GACKT recently became an anti-vaxxer. More on topic we talked about a bunch of games we're looking forward to and things we're playing now. Namely we mentioned a "sexy Dark Souls" game with "She Will Punish You" and updated everyone on the Cannibal Holocaust game we mentioned over a year ago now titled "Borneo: A Jungle Nightmare". All the technical stuff aside, this was actually a very fun, on point episode and we just wish that everything visually and audio-wise followed suit. There's always next week though. October 20, 2020 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Molly Jade Geoff Description: Ultra Podcast Z is bringing the spoops! We're nearing the end of our Halloween-themed shows and this one saw us doing yet another tier list! This series of streams started with a podcast dedicated to talking horror movies (featuring Snakz and Nyaru) and we joked then that maybe we should've made it into a tier list and seeing as there was one week still not properly planned out, we decided to do it! Originally seen as having completely different hosts (one of them being Nyaru) we decided on adding two new people to this one in the form of Jade and Geoff. Also, seeing as our recent Halloween Costume Tier List episode took a very long time to complete due to having five hosts (the most we've ever had btw) we decided to cap this one off at four, hence Nyaru's absence. That said, we still did manage to run this one into nearly four hours and we had a hell of a time ranking 40 of the biggest horror movies of all time! There are a lot of classics here but there are also a lot that we left off due to space and time considerations, so this will definitely be a topic that we return to next year, or perhaps even sooner! Anyhow, this one is a pretty good episode and if you look beyond the technical difficulties (Manuel's camera freezing and locking up for most of the stream and Molly's often harsh quality due to internet issues) there's a lot of fun to be had. It's not quite October so we're easing into the season by covering the simplest of topics, horror movies! While we've touched upon this in year's past we've decided to dedicate a full episode to it and we still couldn't get out all the info we wanted! Seriously though we discussed everything from our earliest horror movie memories, what scares us about some of them, some of our favorites, and other randomness. Snakz joined us for this one and along with Nyaru it wasn't the most visual of episodes but there was a lot of discussion and fun to be had. Elsewhere we talked about found footage movies, the rise and fall of Asian horror movies in the West, and even a bit on ouija boards (an accidental topic!) and trust us guys, Nyaru is NOT CRAZY! All jokes aside, we're excited for the upcoming Halloween schedule and we can't wait to share it with you all!
